This year the event was once again run in near perfect conditions, with 3 Competition Levels taking place in the wonderful Adelaide parklands and the CBC Oval. These were the CCI** CIC** and of course most importantly, the CCI****. More than 20,000 spectators enjoyed a picnic in the park
after Adelaide’s Christmas pageant Saturday morning, whilst being able to watch some of the World’s top eventing riders compete over a Tough and fair course designed by Mike Etherington-Smith. This was followed by 5000 strong crowd enjoying the Showjumping finale at CBC oval applauding the riders and horses efforts after a gruelling 3 days of competition.
Heath Ryan on Flame, Winner 2006 Adelaide International Horse Trials
In the Four Star New South Wales rider Heath Ryan riding the 13 year old Gelding Flame set the pace after the Friday dressage leading by 6.2 penalties with a score of 46.2 from Christopher Burton on Balmoral K.S. Roscoe.
After the Cross Country phase this lead by Heath Ryan was stretched to 14.2 penalties from Emily Anker on Balmoral Cavalier. Christopher Burton had slipped to third place with 61.2 penalties after gaining some time penalties.
Towards the conclusion of the Showjumping, the placings had changed again, with Heath now 14.6 points clear. But his show jumping round did not start well with a rail down on each of the first two jumps. Later on Heath stated that at that stage he was thinking that things were not going to plan. But being the experienced professional Heath is, he regrouped by the third jump with no further penalties added to his Score.

Megan Jones was also honoured by receiving the Anna Savage 'Best and Fairest' award for a second time. One of Megan’s horses Kirby Park Irish Jester was also honoured earlier in the event with the inaugural Peppermint Grove Award. This Award will be presented annually to an Australian-based Eventing horse that the National Selectors identify as Australia’s most talented athlete at CCI***/**** level showing athleticism, honesty and bravery in doing his/her best no matter what the circumstances. His 2006 performances included winning the Adelaide CCI****, third place at the Melbourne three day Event and an excellent performance at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany

- The CCI two star event almost had a hand in another happy ending. Apart from Wendy Schaefer receiving a placing on one of her rides, it offer Will Enzinger riding Barrie Hare’s Badger Bay the opportunity to get a win in the 2 star while his then fiancÚ (now wife) Emily Anker had the opportunity to get a win in the 4 star. Unfortunately both pulled a rail on essentially the same show jump while only a few jumps from the finish. As such both still placed with Will managing second place to Shane Rose.
