The Way of The Horse – Australian Horsemanship Challenge
The Way of the Horse competition was introduced into the EQUITANA's programme in 2005. It proved to be a highly successful and fascinating competition. In 2007 The Way of the Horse returns with a whole new format. Three new contestants will demonstrate their methods of connecting with an unbroken horse over two days.
This challenge is nothing short of the ultimate display of the ability of a trainer to interact with an unstarted horse on a level the average person can only imagine. Each trainer will select a young unbroken horse and demonstrate the unique method they use to make a connection enabling trust, respect and amazing progress in what the horse is prepared to do for its trainer.
The 2007 Horsemanship Challenge is not to be missed by any horse lover as we watch and learn from Dan James, Frank Bell and Shane Ransley
Frank Bell
 - Living in Eastern Idaho (USA), Frank Bell is a master trainer who specializes in techniques for natural horsemanship, or "horse whispering" that emphasizes safety for both rider and horse. Frank Bell’s ‘Gentle Solutions’ techniques have evolved over the past two decades into some of the most effective, yet easy-to-use methods for natural horsemanship training. Frank Bell developed the Seven Step Safety System (7-SSS) this is based on the teachings of the Plains Indians, as well as Buck Brannaman, the renowned “Horse Whisperer” on whom the Robert Redford movie was based. Frank has been teaching the 7-SSS in several countries and is certifying partners to do the same as part of his ‘gentle solution revolution’.
Dan James
 - Dan is currently based at Liveringa Station in the Kimberley`s of Western Australia. He grew up on small cattle farms in Queensland and started breaking in horses when he was 14 years old, he competed in campdrafting, working horse challenges and participated in eventing competitions at state level. The demonstrations and tricks that Dan performs with the horses started out for entertaining the guests that came to the station but have now grown out to more professional performances. Dan has recently acted in The Spirit of the Horse, a two and half hour choreographed horse show with special effects. When not working with horses at the station, he works in the stock camp, mustering, driving the road train and bull buggy.
Shane Ransley
 - Shane’s passion for horses was sparked later in life when he realized that he had a natural talent for seeing patterns in the behaviour of horses. From wild bush horses to Brumbies, from horses with serious riding issues to a straight up first ride, Shane has started or restarted them all with one consistent outcome…..a calm, confident horse, willing to continue his career as a ridden partner of man. Seeing the need to create a learnable horsemanship program, led Shane and his wife Meredith to develop Quantum Savvy - a programme that is achievable, repeatable, accessible and easy to learn. Shane believes that all horse owners can and should have access to quality horsemanship to help them live their dreams with horses.

EQUITANA Asia Pacific ticket holders are entitled to free travel on metropolitan public transport on the date of the event shown on their ticket. This means all trains, trams and buses that accept Metcards. When traveling to and from the event on metropolitan public transport, you must have your Equitana ticket with you at all times to qualify for free travel. Otherwise you are required to purchase a Metcard.
